Job description

Travelling around Aotearoa New Zealand, you will:

  1. be delivering science based shows and exhibits to school aged audiences until 13 September as part of the Science Roadshow. You will be part of a small team involved in the day to day delivery, maintenance and administration of this valued science programme to schools. Duties include giving verbal presentations (with the aid of props) to groups of students ranging in size from 30 to 200 at a time. Age wise the students can be from Yr1 to Yr10, with most being Yr 5-8.
  2. Thereafter be lead host of our Tuia 250 Roadshow as it journeys in support of the Flotilla events of the Tuia 250 commemorations ( This Roadshow will offer an inspiring visitor experience with bilingual stories of Aotearoa New Zealand’s heritage and identity using engaging museum artefacts and hands on activities. It encourages the visitor to join in the korero about our past, present and future and is delivered from a mobile exhibition trailer (

Essential Skills

Good people skills, te reo Maori, an ability to work under pressure, a high level of initiative and a ‘can do’ attitude.


Touring Aotearoa New Zealand. When away from home, all meals, accommodation (shared motel unit) and travel will be paid for by the Roadshow. For the initial period (Science Roadshow) you will have weekends off. Weekend work is anticipated during the Tuia 250 tour but our time in-lieu system compensates for this and for extended durations away from home. This position involves considerable time away from home.
